Excited to let you know we’ve finally launched fullstack support on Scrimba – that means node, next, Express, SQL and more, all using our scrim tech! We kick it off with 7 courses all available for FREE. This takes Scrimba into a whole new realm of possibilities for those looking to learn to code and level up their skills.
Today we’re also trending on Product Hunt. If you have an account we’d really appreciate your support there.
I think it’s highly misleading to say that the courses are free. As soon as you get to 10 challenges, then it says you have to pay. I’m not saying you shouldn’t charge, but you should be clear up front that you can’t really use the full course for free.
Have replied to your other response in this thread regarding the issue. The problem was escalated to our team and we identified that we had a critical bug that prevent users from continuing on with our free content when an upgrade modal appears. Our intention was to always have free courses be available and only prompt to upgrade if the students have used up all their free challenge credits. We never intended to require a subscription for free courses as these upgrade notices can be skipped, allowing the student to continue watching for free on these free courses (just without the interactive challenges).
The development team has patched this up and it should be working as intended now.
Interesting. So I guess it was just a bug, not by design. Thanks for clarifying. I did notice a few popup upgrade prompts that came up and disappeared immediately, so I guess that was probably a related technical issue. (They came and went so fast, I could not read them.)
Scrimba seems like a very useful platform for learning new technical skills. As I’m sure you know, developers can be a pretty skeptical bunch. I encourage you to strive to be very clear about what’s free, what’s paid and how things work. Be up front and clear about this not just on the site, but when you sign up, when you start taking courses etc. That way you’ll reduce the likelihood of someone feeling like your’e trying to pull a fast one.
Also, I appreciate the response. If I can be helpful to you or Scrimba, please let me know.
We really appreciate the report and feedback @ZUrlocker. Definitely in agreement with you here. This bug prompted a review of things so there are more improvements that are scheduled to be applied to make things more clear and concise on what we offer, how our platform works, and the overall messaging of our service.
Your feedback and report is already of great help so if you have any other feedback and suggestions do let us know!
