This looks like an awesome place to learn and hang out. I’ve been exploring the site and got into a bit of a tangle regarding subscriptions.
Please clarify subscription discount options, in particular with Student Status. My account name is ‘mazal’ and my account user name is ‘@studentiyot.’
My intention was to sign up and use the free resources for a while until I get my bearings. I registered via GitHub, in which I am authorized for the Student Pack. Scrimbia scraped this data and offered me a 30% student discount. Good for six days (June 17). After this point nothing has been straight forward. The 30% tag disappeared and instead I was automatically enrolled for a free month of Pro. That’s nice, but I wasn’t ready to start the clock. Then a 50% discount badge appears alongside a prompt to upgrade to annual. When I click the “upgrade” button I receive an error, {{TypeError: ME.active㆔sub.upgrade㆔to㆔annual is not a function}}.
Ideally I’d like to understand precisely which discounts/combination of discounts are valid. And what total cost should I expect, when I’m ready to commit to the curriculum?
Hey @studentiyot, yeah it’s definitely not the best display of things at the moment, especially with some students redeem free access. It treats them as paid students which makes it confusing even more. I saw that one of our support team is chatting to your via email so they’ll clarify more things for you there.
For others who read this - if you’re account has free access, currently you will see “upgrade” but this technically doesn’t work since you’re not actually subscribed. If you click that, or system bugs out a bit so we’ll need to fix this up and improve on the messaging.
Hey @roku, thank you for the prompt reply. After reading a few other posts, one in particular about student pricing, I saw that you recommended to send an email to the help desk. I did, and got a lovely response. UX cracks happen but when communication is solid you end up with a positive vibe. I’m sure it will work out.
Fwiw, other organizations, such as Figma, have similar user onboarding with a “student” layer. You’re treated just like one of the team on the PRO tier, but you have a badge showing that you’re on the “Edu” track. Everything works seamlessly, with the exception of certain restrictions where (a few) features are not available. You can upgrade anytime without fuss, and boy do they encourage you to do so.
It’s worth taking a look at Figma’s student user flow.
Anway it’s great to be here. You appear really involved, and that’s always reassuring. I’m excited to get started.
