I’m dropping this note here to express how slimy it feels to be hit midway through a course with a paywall. I get that this is a business but it feels like a really poor form to not make that clear up front. While I am really liking the course I’m taking and, yeah, you did manage to extract the monthly subscription fee, it feels really slimy to me and I do not like to work with companies that do that sort of thing. I’ll be unsubscribing as soon as I finish the course and will not be coming back.
Sorry to hear about the friction with our platform. The paywall should only appear as a modal to let you know when you’ve used up your free challenges. You should still be able to continue watching our free courses—just without access to the interactive challenges.
I have raised an issue with our team to investigate if this is working as intended or if there was a recent issue with the paywall.
Update: This was actually a critical bug that prevented users from actually continuing on for our free lessons. How it worked is that when a student reaches their maximum use of free challenge credits they’ll get a upgrade modal. But there is a “skip” button that they can use to continue on watching the lessons (just no interactive challenges). A bug recently popped up where the upgrade modal couldn’t be escaped to continue the lesson which resulted in student being unable to continue.
The fix has now been pushed out. Sorry again for the issue here.
